About Anti-Ballistic Missile

A guided missile called an Anti-Ballistic Missile (ABM) is intended to defend against ballistic missiles, which have an arching, high-altitude trajectory. ABM systems are designed to stop incoming ballistic missiles in their tracks during different stages of flight, including the boost, midcourse, and re-entry phases.


Anti-Ballistic Missile can travel at different speeds based on the particular system. In order to successfully intercept ballistic missiles, which have a very high speed of travel, they are made to be swift and nimble. ABMs can travel at speeds of up to several thousand kilometers per hour, or hypersonic.

Damage Caused By Anti-Ballistic Missile?

An anti-ballistic missile’s purpose is to intercept and neutralize an approaching ballistic missile, not to strike a target on the ground. The main objective is to neutralize or incapacitate the approaching threat before it reaches its target. The goal of the damage done to the ballistic missile intercepted is to stop it from advancing toward its target by making it inert or altering its course.

Anti-Ballistic Missile are fast and nimble, making them difficult to intercept. But a number of tools and missiles are made to thwart ABMs, such as:

Advanced Maneuvering: Advanced maneuvering ballistic missiles are able to avoid interceptions by randomly altering their trajectory.

Decoys and Countermeasures: Decoys or countermeasures may be used by ballistic missiles to trick ABM systems into believing they are decoys rather than actual warheads.

Electronic Countermeasures: The efficacy of ABMs can be diminished by electronic warfare systems that interfere with their guidance systems.

Multiple Re-entry Vehicles (MRVs) and Multiple Independently Targetable Re-entry Vehicles (MIRVs): These characteristics of ballistic missiles can make intercepting them more difficult by deploying more than one warhead or decoy.

The offensive missile capabilities and defensive technologies are engaged in an ongoing arms race. ABMs are essential for defending against ballistic missile attacks, but due to the ever-evolving nature of missile technology, a comprehensive and flexible defense plan is necessary. ABM effectiveness is dependent on a number of variables, including interceptor speed and agility, incoming missile countermeasures, and the defense system’s capacity to distinguish between genuine threats and decoys.
